Cloud Data Scientist
Paul contributes specialist knowledge in the fields of cloud architecture, DevOps and spatial analytics to Fireball International.
Following from academic studies with majors in Math and Computer Science (B. Science UQ), he has obtained in excess of 20 years experience in data management, analytics and systems design.
Paul’s career in analytics and compute covers a broad spectrum from data digitisation (transfer from hard-copy material to digital media; in the early days!), to now highly scalable cloud compute implementations handling millions of transactions per day.

Having worked across private enterprises, state and local governments, Paul thoroughly enjoys the drive required to rapidly deliver products under tight timeframes. In this regard, he has participated and mentored in local and national (Australia) hack events. In these events, he has won several awards in the areas of using technology for connecting people with lost animals and optimisation of emergency flights between regional Queensland health centres. Paul’s proudest moment however is mentoring his son in designing and delivery a hardware hack for identifying lost dogs with WiFi.
In delivery rapid solutions, it became clear to Paul that using cloud services to perform much of the heavy lifting was an essential element to PoC (Proof of concept) and startup ventures. During 2019, Paul validated his acquired knowledge of cloud systems from the previous 5 years in obtaining professional AWS certifications as Solution Architect and DevOps Engineer.
The aggregation of these skills has provided Fireball with end-to-end capabilities in delivery of robust and timely services to clients.
Professionally, Paul has an interest in taking ‘traditional’ spatial data storage and analytics practices and integrate these into cloud-native high volume data flows to support business event driven decisions.
As a side-gig, Paul would like to automate everything; particularly using computer vision and sensors to deliver smart experiences to the community without having to stare at mobile phones continuously.
