exci is all about strengthening community resilience and helping people and their communities. Our business is about detection, assessment and mapping of bush fires but our concern for people extends to the protection of personal information and beyond. We collect and store only the information we need (geographic area and entity) to provide you with a rapid notification when a fire has started that is relevant to you.
Google Analytics does grab your IP address and there-by lets us see where people using our service are located. We don’t save lists of IP addresses or any other data that Google scrapes from you. We may occasionally store summarized data on user locations and duration of use. We use that information to make sure that our service has a good chance of serving your needs. We also use Fullstory and Heap to review user interaction with the platform.
Data storage and use
We store your data in a few different places and use it in a couple of different ways.
If you register with the site, we will store your name and email address and organization and maybe the branch/office at which you work. If you want SMS alerts from exciMap then we’ll store the phone number you give us for your device. If you sign up for email notifications, we will send you emails about the fire incidents that we detect in your area of interest. The frequency of which depends on the activity on your section of the exiMap.
Honestly, we do absolutely nothing surprising or radical with your info. We use your email address and phone number to send you notifications. We send you emails (rarely) about updates to our terms and conditions or changes to our services. We’ll occasionally ask you for feedback or compliments. We send emails through Amazon Web Services (AWS), we host our emergency incident database on AWS, and all our work happens on highly secure cloud assets. We use Fullstory and Heap to review user sessions – so your location and session data can be used to review features or bugs or improve user experience.
We don’t share your data with any third parties for marketing purposes.
We go to maximum effort to keep your data secure and only ever look at it to solve technical problems that you might have.

Send us a note at firstname.lastname@example.org if you:
want to see what we’ve got on you;
want to ask us not to sell your data (easy – we would not think of selling it anyway);
think our data about you is incorrect (we’ll do our best to fix it); or
if you want us to do a very elaborate data checking exercise, we may charge you a reasonable amount to cover our time, unless billing you is illegal.
When your organization subscribes to our service, we keep only information that tells us which organization you belong to.
Our operations system doesn’t track anyone’s or any entities payment details; those are kept elsewhere by our accounts staff.
Email marketing and newsletters
If you sign up to our newsletter, we will, infrequently, send you some information that we think will interest you. You can unsubscribe at any time by clicking the unsubscribe button that we provide in each of these emails.
Your right to be deleted
If you want every piece of information that we have about you to be deleted, just send us an email at email@example.com and we’ll accommodate you. There is an important exception here. We cannot delete your purchase history (or that of your organization) because the taxman will be upset.
If you ask to be deleted, you won’t be able to access our maps anymore. We’re not being rascals here, it’s because we need your email address, so we know you’re part of a paid-up organization and that you’re allowed to access our intelligence.
We use social media in moderation to promote our service and our achievements. We try not to push our off-beat and self-aggrandising opinions into the world. If you talk to us in our Forum and we become familiar with you, we might find you on LinkedIn or Twitter and say hello. You can ask us to be less friendly if you wish and we will, of course, respect your boundaries.
You are not required to follow our social media accounts and we won’t ask our employees to bother you in the service of us.
